‘Emotional’ and ‘intelligence’, you know what these words mean, right? Do you also know their connection? Before we find their connection, let’s define the Emotional Quotient and Intelligence Quotient.

The Intelligence Quotient or IQ is a number that we get from a structured ‘intelligence’ test. The Emotional Quotient or EQ is about our ability to notice, control, assess, and express your emotions.

Do you know that there is a connection between being emotionally intelligent and intelligence? When you are in touch with your emotions:
1. You find ways to deal with situations and people in more effective ways
2. You find ways to empower yourself through learning and developing your skills
3. You practice self-care in various ways
4. You use learning and reasoning to solve/face problems.

When you follow all of these, you find that your intelligence quotient has increased as well. You could be a smart person, but with low EQ, you can find yourself making the same mistakes repeatedly!

Kids, for example, with high EQ get better grades. Such kids also make healthier choices such as staying in school or being someone who opposes bullies. We know that kids with high IQ do well in their exams. However, without EQ, they might be prone to arrogance.

Emotionally intelligent kids make better leaders. They cooperate more and can take the lead in any team work. This in turn ensures that they strive to be a good example for others.

Companies today seek leaders who are not just ‘book intelligent’. They seek people who can complete their work, while also inspiring others to work better. They look for people who are team players. This is why companies look for employees who are emotionally intelligent.

You would want to be this person? We certainly think you would fit the role with high EQ!

How does one gain high intelligence? By learning, reading, sharing ideas, and listening to others. However, if you do understand how to interact with others, it might be hard to increase your IQ. Understanding others and your emotions is therefore, possibly the most important asset for a person.

As you become an adult, you would find that being an intelligent person who is also nice is a lot more appreciated. As someone with high EQ, you would communicate better. This would enhance the quality of your relationships, making you a more confident person. As you become more confident, you would want to attain greater goals.
