6 Ways to Introduce Your Child to Nature’s Abundance

by | Mar 16, 2021 | Nature and Kids | 0 comments

Introduction:

Get to the heart of simplicity with nature. Though it is bountiful, there is a strange calm and no delusions of grandeur in nature. It’s not hard to see and feel its beauty. Introduce your child to nature’s abundance. It’s perhaps one of the best gifts you can give your child.

1.Introduce your child to nature at a young age

Start when your child is a toddler. Take him or her to parks and natural habitats. Allow your child to make their own ‘introduction’ to the flora and fauna. This builds and sustains their interest.

2.Be a Role Model

Talk enthusiastically about outdoor activities. Take your child with you on nature walks, bike rides, treks, hikes, and swimming in lakes or oceans. Visit nature resorts, wildlife reserves, and other such places that abound with natural beauty. Allow your child to ask questions. This sustains the enthusiasm about nature’s abundance.

3.Bring Back Treasures

Allow your child to bring back rocks, sticks, flowers, leaves, and shells. Encourage him or her to carry back as nature’s gifts. You might not approve of bugs and caterpillars, slugs and earthworms in the house. But allow your child to bring them as well. Build an ‘observatory’ where your child can keep these ‘pets’ for a while. Ensure that he or she releases the ‘pets’ back to nature once done observing.

4.Hand Build in and from Nature

Children are easily excited and tend to love the things that they create. Help your child to build a ‘fort’ from sticks, leaves, or mud in your backyard or while on a trek. If you have space, encourage your child to build a tree-house. This serves a ‘special place’ out in nature – the birthplace of happy childhood memories.

5.Expose Your Child to Resources

There are times when going outdoors is not possible. A fun and easy way to keep your child connected to nature’s abundance and thrill is through books, videos, and movies about nature. There are television channels that explain nature’s various exciting facets. When you use technology this way it helps your child to develop knowledge of both nature and the benefits of technology.

6.Gardening

Allow your child to build and care for a garden. It’s the best and most endearing way to introduce her or him to nature’s abundance. Take them to a nursery and allow them to pick out flowers, plants, and pots. Help them plant the flora in pots and tell them to ensure that the plants grow well. As their interest grows, allow them a small patch to grow flowers, fruits, or vegetables. If your home does not have this space, allow them a portion of your balcony/gallery to place pots. Watch your child ‘bloom’ into an awesome gardener and admirer of nature.

In Conclusion:

Introducing your child to nature’s abundance brings several important health benefits too. A child who connects to nature grows up to be a strong and fit adult. Connection with nature enhances confidence, imagination, attention span, and academic performance. This connection helps to reduce lethargy, aggression, and stress. You will see your child make conscious efforts to keep nature safe from harm. Soon we will have adults who care about nature!
