“We’ve been using Angel Bear Yoga as a family since my son was 2 1/2, he’s now 13 years of age. Doing Angel Bear yoga poses, and breathing is just delightful as a family and so fun. I feel like my son has a lot of love and kindness in him and I do think I owe so very much of that to Angel bear yoga. The character-building traits really stuck with my son. It was very helpful.I can’t say enough positives, we think it’s just amazing! “

Hi, let me introduce myself to you. I am Chirsti, a certified Yoga instructor and a mother of two beautiful and kind daughters. You must be thinking why I shared the fact that I have kids right away? Because they are my inspiration. Well, to be honest, not inspiration exactly but it is after my first child that I started practicing yoga to balance my life and in the process found inner peace. I was amazed at the benefits that yoga offers.

My yoga journey started as I received my Children’s Yoga Training and Certification through YogaKids (Phase I), a premiere international yoga program for children. I also completed YogaEd. Teacher Training Certification; a nationally known program working to bring yoga programs into schools throughout the country. I also have an extensive background in child development. I’m an IAIM Certified Infant Massage Instructor, Itsy Bitsy Yoga trained, as well as Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga Certified.

My combined expertise in yoga and child development is why my husband and I thought of Angel Bear Yoga. I’m now the founder of Angel Bear Yoga, an innovative children’s yoga program that has a complete curriculum line and training program. I’ve trained over 300 instructors in over 30 countries.

I’ve appeared on Fox News (nationally and locally) and attended many national conferences including NAEYC and Montessori. I continue to strive to bring innovative materials to teachers to include movement, nature, literacy and imagination into the classroom.

I have taught children’s yoga at a variety of places including preschools, public and private schools, yoga studios, sporting centers, children’s museums, camps, and churches. I developed and implemented an innovative yoga curriculum for a public school (The Downtown Elementary School of Winston-Salem) which focused on Character Development.

About Christi, the wife- My husband, Mark, and I met in high school and have been together ever since. We share our home with a menagerie of pets and love spending time in nature.

Together with my wife, Christi, we started the Angel Bear Yoga.

I believe that if I had Angel Bear Yoga my childhood would have been easier. I would probably recall more good times than the struggling ones. So, as a child I had problems learning the normal way. For being “learning-disabled and ADHD”, I was labelled. But was I really learning-disabled? No, I wasn’t.

My parents supported me and told me that I could achieve anything I wanted to with hard work. This motivation has helped and is still helping me grow and do what I always wanted to do- help children reach their full potential through character building and motivation.

I also believe in the power of the word “imagine”. As a young adult, I felt personally motivated to learn through the use of my imagination. In later life, I began creating programs that taught important lessons using guided imagery and imagination.

So coming back to me being- “learning-disabled”, why was I labeled so? I wasn’t a part of the “normal” and learnt at my pace and in my own way. And this is my great desire- to show parents and teachers alike that all children have the capacity for greatness! Imagine my parents not being supportive; it would have landed me in almost nowhere.

My message to the parents and teachers- Let children grow at their own sweet pace. There is no time as important as childhood to nurture their imagination and build their character. I am a published author and a cardiac nurse. Without the support of my parents, I couldn’t have been either of them.

I love kids and spending time with them. I am passionate about raising emotionally intelligent children. I started my career as a teacher and continued to teach for more than 20 years!

I did my graduation in Commerce and then followed my passion for teaching. I completed my Early Childhood Care and Education from Sadhana Education society in 1989. The following year, I completed a Certificate Course in Learning Disability from Arya Vidya Mandir where I taught for a good 20 years.

Moving out of school left a void and I still wanted to nurture my maternal instincts. With my family’s support and collaborating with Judy Julin from the US, we started Cosmikids International in Mumbai. It’s a preschool, day-care and a child enrichment centre.

Judy Julin introduced us to Christi and Mark, the creators of Angel Bear Yoga. That’s when my brother Rakesh and I decided to bring it to our centre.

Now, you may wonder what Yoga has to do with my goal of making kids emotionally intelligent. As a child who used to have a hard time getting good grades, I believe that Angel Bear Yoga makes your child a lot closer to nature, more imaginative, more creative, and more open to learning in new ways.

I strongly believe that unless we decide to explore our potential, we never really know what we are capable of. From someone who didn’t like to study, I was happy to be known as the most loved teacher for more than two decades. My journey is one that should inspire your kids to understand that they are much greater than their grades.

A keen reader, a thinker, and a person who is open to new ideas of growth and development- that’s me, dear readers.

After completing my Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics from the University of Kolhapur, I did a Management Development Programme called “Small and Medium Enterprises” from I.I.M Ahmedabad. So, you can imagine that my education has shaped my entrepreneurial mindset.

Being open to adapt to the new ways of sales and marketing, I decided to deepen my digital marketing knowledge. I explored all the courses from HubSpot academy and certified myself in Content Marketing, Email Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Inbound Marketing, Inbound Sales, and Sales Enablement.

Being a lifelong learner I take in whatever positivity I can from the books I read, to the people I meet. That is why I find Angel Bear Yoga so perfect for little children to build an open mind and to grow into emotionally strong adults.

I explored various fields of knowledge from child psychology to mindfulness. I completed Introduction to Psychology, Social Psychology and De-Mystifying Mindfulness courses from Coursera.

I also completed an online program called Swadhyay (Self Study or Introspection) conducted at The Yoga Institute, Mumbai. It is based on the Integration of Contemporary Psychology with the principles of Yoga Psychology.

Together with Christi, Mark and my sister Bela, we created Angel Bear Yoga as an online platform. Here parents, teachers and even yoga instructors can learn how to conduct a successful yoga for kids class using storytelling, nature and imagination. Our goal is to nurture physically and emotionally healthy children.
